I'm on Pop Candy

Well, OK, Pop Candy is Whitney Matheson's entertainment blog for USA Today, so I'm not technically "on" it.

I have created an account on the site and will be contributing to it in the future.

I'm on MySpace!

I've created a MySpace profile for this endeavor:

www.myspace.com/ninproposal

I sent friend requests to NIN and various NIN-related bands like Saul Williams, modwheelmod, and QOTSA. I entered a short (150 word) message along with each request explaining the situation.

I believe there's a fine line between "getting the word out" and "spamming people." I understand that, I really do. At the same time, the only way I'm going to get in contact with the band is if I really pursue this, so that's what I'm going to do.

She means a great deal to me, so I've got to at least try.

Updated video...

So I updated my YouTube video. I made it shorter and removed the "funny Internet meme" from the end of it.

Submitted story to reddit and Rocketboom

So I submitted my story to reddit and Rocketboom a few minutes ago. We'll see what happens.

I think it's important for everyone to understand that I'm not some obsessive NIN fan. If anything, my girlfriend is more obsessive than I am. This endeavor is completely genuine and sincere. I'm trying to do something truly unique and special for my girlfriend's marriage proposal.

When all is said and done, I'd like to think that doing something sincere for a loved one is all that really matters.

I'm on Echoing the Sound!

I'm on Echoing the Sound!

More news to come...

UPDATE: Okay, so I'm not on Echoing the Sound after all. I submitted the post last night, and when I checked it this afternoon it said it didn't exist. I tried searching for it by keywords, but after I performed a couple searches and then got the following error:

"You cannot make another search so soon after your last; please try again in a short while."

As far as I can tell, I didn't post anything that violated their terms of use. I just posted a simple message saying, essentially, "I'm trying to propose at a NIN concert. Go here and here to check out my blog and YouTube video."

I guess someone didn't like that too much. I'm going to move on to other things and come back to Echoing the Sound in the near future.

I'm on YouTube!

UPDATE: I've removed the original video and created a new one. See new post.

Here goes nothing...

I don't even know where to begin with this. I guess from the beginning:

My girlfriend and I met in college 5 years ago and have been together ever since. This is a serious relationship for the both of us. We've been through some rough times, but we've survived it all and I know that we mean more to each other now than when we first started dating.

I've put a lot of thought into the marriage proposal. She's not your stereotypical kind of girl. She's not big into flowers or jewelry, but she loves video games and rock music. I'm sure she would be OK with a proposal on a beach somewhere, but personally I think she'd be happier with something a little more creative. So I've been thinking, "What can I do that would be both original and personal?"

It hit me like a ton of bricks while I was at lunch last week: I'll propose to her at a Nine Inch Nails concert!

A little bit of backstory: we're both big NIN fans, but she's the one that introduced me to the music when we first started dating. She saw them perform live in Charlotte, NC during the Fragility tour, and after we got together we saw them in Atlanta, GA and Greenville, SC. These concerts have become some of our happiest memories of being together. It seems only fitting that I should propose to her at a NIN concert, given our appreciation of the band and our great memories of the live shows.

Nine Inch Nails will be performing some shows in the coming months, and even though tickets aren't on sale yet we plan on being at one of them. I'm going to promote this blog all across the internet in the hopes of contacting Trent Reznor.

Yeah, you read that right: I want to contact Trent Reznor. Do you think you could help me do that?

I've never done something like this before but there's nothing holding me back. I'm willing to do anything for her, and I know that this would be an absolute dream come true. Nothing's going to stop me from trying.

Right about now, you're probably wondering what I'm expecting to happen. I don't have any specific goal in mind except to make contact with Reznor and hope that he can help me out in any way possible.

So here is my question for you, the reader: how do I contact Trent Reznor? I'm not in the music business and I know nothing about agents and all that hooplah. How does the average joe contact a musician who has sold millions of albums?

If you have any helpful information, please email me at ninproposal@gmail.com. I'm going to post updates to this blog as they happen.

Wish me luck!
